Bitch, it’s Madonna.
When an album’s worth of demos leaked earlier this week many worried that Madonna’s next release would be canned and we’d be waiting another three years to be blessed with her return – but fear not.
The Queen of Pop’s 13th album, officially titled Rebel Heart, arrived on iTunes this morning as a surprise pre-order with six brand new songs available immediately, including the final versions of leaked tracks Unapologetic Bitch and Bitch I’m Madonna, on which she reunites with Nicki Minaj.
Some of the songs have been changed significantly from their early demos, with the former vogue-worthy dance track Illuminati being transformed into a slow-burner courtesy of Kanye West‘s Yeezus-lite production, while Devil Pray has been given a welcomed uplifting with a distorted drop built for the underground dancefloor.
Most notably, the lead single Living For Love – which in its demo form was widely praised as being Madonna’s best recording in over a decade – has lost some of its magic as the disco house production has been replaced in favour of a frantic bass drop, but for those who never got to hear the demo this will most likely be received as her best single in years (which it is).
Along with these six songs, more music will be released on February 9 before the album – of an astounding NINETEEN songs – is released on March 10.
“I was hoping to release my new single ‘Living For Love’ on Valentine’s Day with the rest of the album coming in the Spring. I would prefer my fans to hear completed versions of some of the songs instead of the incomplete tracks that are circulating. Please consider these six songs as an early Christmas gift,” (Madonna.com)
