Just moments ago, age-defying Jennifer Lopez debuted the music video for her new single “I Luh Ya Papi” and took us back to the early 00’s.
From the opening skit to the countless flashy set-ups, Lopez turns back the clock to a time where no expense was spared for the music video – after all, the music video made the song’s success. The video, directed by Jessy Terrero, references a lot of the singer’s own past videos – the yacht scene has been lifted right out of “Jenny From The Block” and the soundstage dance sequence is similar to “Get Right” – to capture the brilliance that used to be, and shows that the 44-year-old can still do it just as well as she used to.
Surrounded by shirtless male co-stars, the American Idol judge flips the script on male rapper’s videos that objectify women – all in a tongue-in-cheek Jennifer Lopez kinda way, of course. It’s hard to believe J-Lo’s age when she’s showing off her incredibly toned body in a skin-tight green jumpsuit that is strikingly similar to the infamous Versace bodysuit she wore to the 2000 Grammy Awards and doesn’t look a day older than she did 14 years ago.
The Detail-produced single premiered a few days ago and we hadn’t yet made up our minds when we posted about it but after a few listens the track is absolutely irresistible. The summer track is too catchy to hate with that earworm of a chorus – and, besides, it’s refreshing to hear a song come from J-Lo that isn’t another EDM album filler.
“Papi“, featuring French Montana, is the first to be released from the singer’s upcoming tenth album – which will also feature remixes of the single with Big Sean and Tyga, Lopez has confirmed.
Well, it looks like J-Lo has another hit on her hands… What do you think? Love it or hate it?
