Coldplay have returned after a short break with a brand new song, “Midnight“.
The eery track debuted at midnight in the local time zone of Mongolia, where the band are currently residing for unknown reasons. The song hasn’t been released on any digital outlet since today’s premiere on VEVO and no announcement for the song or the band’s upcoming sixth studio album has been made either. Can we call this a single if it lands on our Twitter news feed without any context? Possibly not – but for now, let’s just say it is.
The song’s indie sound is very distant from the anthemic stadium-ready hits that appeared on their 2011 LP “Mylo Xyloto“, as singer Chris Martin’s voice is unusually quiet and distorted by the use of vocoder. And its heat-sensor video, directed by Mary Wigmore, is just as cold.
