Shakira has debuted a new song that sounds like 100% vintage Shak in every good way possible.
You could hear a major sigh of relief when “Empire” was uploaded to the singer’s VEVO page earlier tonight. In recent years the hip-shaking, belly-dancing queen of Columbia turned her attention to making (incredible) dance pop songs that steered away from her original sound – a unique blend of soft rock, reggae and pop – that turned her into a household name with hits like “Whenever, Wherever” and “Don’t Bother“.
The 37-year-old previously stated that she would be returning to this sound on her upcoming tenth album and showed she meant business with the release of its flawless lead single “Can’t Remember To Forget You“, featuring Rihanna. However, the new track really proves she is not messing around as we hear a side of Shakira that fans haven’t heard in years; one that hasn’t been consistently showcased since the days of “Underneath Your Clothes” back in 2002, over a decade ago.
“Empire” is available to download immediately when you pre-order Shakira’s self-titled album on iTunes now. The set will be released on March 24 (UK).
