‘It’s hard out here for a bitch!‘
YES! Lily Allen is back, and sassier than ever.
The ‘Smile‘ singer has returned unexpectedly with the premiere of her brand new single and music video tonight.
‘Hard Out Here‘ sees Allen hit out at sexism in the music industry as she sings about how women are objectified as sex objects in music (see: Miley Cyrus). “You’ll find me in the studio and not in the kitchen / I won’t be bragging about my cars, or talking about my chains / Don’t need to shake my arse for you ’cause I’ve got a brain“, she sings. It’s refreshing to hear a pop song that relies more on the lyrics than the beats for once.
Packed full of tongue-in-cheek shade and plenty of puns, the jingly pop song is nothing less than what we’ve come to expect from pop’s Queen of Sass – and the music video is pretty funny too.
The video begins with the mum-of-two getting liposuction as she discusses her return to music with ‘her manager’ and by the end of the video she’s grinding with plenty of scantily-clad dancers and dancing in between massive balloons that declare the words “LILY ALLEN HAS A BAGGY PUSSY”. Charming.
‘Hard Out Here‘ is the first single to be released from the singer’s forthcoming third album, which is due out early 2014.
Welcome back, Lily!
