Miley Cyrus has taken the term ‘vulnerable’ to a bit of an extreme in her new music video for her latest single, ‘Wrecking Ball‘.
The 20-year-old phenomenon gives her tongue a rest and instead lets her naked body do the talking as she wraps herself around a giant ball in the video. The nudity may not add much to the meaning of the video, but Miley is definitely not afraid to strip back and show her real emotions in the image-defining clip.
As Miley sings the heartfelt track – produced by Dr. Luke – she evokes raw (and very real) emotion in a series of close-ups, similar to Sinead O’Connor‘s iconic ‘Nothing Compares To You‘ shot.
Similarities aside – Miley shows real artistic growth with the music video as the lyrics are brought to life in the bold clip, directed by Terry Richardson. Although, the video will definitely give people more to talk about as they criticise the star of losing control – however, she seems very much in control this time around.
Regardless of what the critics may say, this video has no extras, no dancers and only one very large prop – Miley Cyrus is the star.
‘Wrecking Ball‘ is the second single from Miley’s upcoming album ‘Bangerz‘. The singer has promised to release the album’s tracklisting if the video manages to beat VEVO’s one-day views record (previously held by her single ‘We Can’t Stop‘ before One Direction beat her with ‘Best Song Ever‘.)
The single is available on iTunes now, and you can watch the provocative music video below.
