Kanye West has chopped and changed the tracklist of his sixth solo album several times over the last few months, but just before ‘Yeezus‘ suffered an early internet leak yesterday the rapper unwrapped the final tracklisting.
The 10-track set sees West collaborating with producers Daft Punk on 4 different tracks, and has appearances from Frank Ocean, Kid Cudi and, most surprisingly, God. On track 3, ‘I Am A God‘, the 36-year-old rapper lives up to his controversial status as he credits God as a featured artist.
The final tracklisting is drastically different to early reports, which saw that West would collaborate with Skrillex, Beyoncé and, most recently, Will Smith on the album, which had a working title of ‘Rich Black American‘. It seems that West went back into the studio and fully reconstructed the album to create the genius that is now ‘Yeezus‘.
Upon its leak yesterday, critics and fans alike have raved about the rapper’s new material – Rolling Stone has already reviewed the set, giving it 4.5/5 stars. With house and trap influences laced throughout the record, some tracks mark a sonical departure for the rapper – although he has never been one to limit himself. ‘I’m In It‘ is an ode to West’s “baby mama” Kim Kardashian‘s curvacious body, whereas tracks such as ‘New Slaves‘ and ‘Black Skinhead‘ tackle social issues.
