Miley Cyrus Signs Record Deal With RCA Records

A few months ago, former Disney star Miley Cyrus opened up about setting up her own campaign without record company advisors to ensure that her upcoming album is her album.

Now that the LOL actress feels comfortable with her new sound, image and holds creative control over her next musical project, Miley has signed a record deal with RCA Records.

Miley’s next record will be the follow-up to 2009’s Can’t Be Tamed and the first ever album of hers to not be released by Hollywood Records, who try to maintain as much control over their projects as possible.

The process of creating Miley’s third album has seen her collaborate with an endless list of urban producers – including Pharrell Williams and Hit-Boy – and the biggest names in pop music, such as Dr. Luke. The album will act as a re-introduction to Miley as she has had the freedom to take control this time round, and with the drastic image transformation we can only expect the same when it comes to the singer’s new material.

Miley spoke about the difference of her upcoming album compared to her previous bodies of work in the latest issue of Cosmopolitan magazine, stating that she has had much more freedom since the pressure of Disney has been taken away.

“I’ve never gotten to make a record like this because Disney’s always been on my back saying, ‘You’ve got to promote the TV show in two months, so make sure your record’s done…and when you promote your record, can you promote the show, the movie and the Hannah Montana record?’ I was basically carrying two people’s careers and trying to make mine the priority. Now, it’s almost like being a new artist and trying to make a first impression. I think the best thing I could have done was take those two years off to really live, because now people don’t think of me as who I was on the TV show.”

To many fans and critics’ surprise, the 20-year-old has also collaborated with Mary J Blige for the new album. “I wrote this song with Mary J. Blige, and Tyler the Creator heard it and said, ‘I am obsessed with this song, and I will guest on it if you promise me that you will keep it on the album.’ And he killed it!”.

Miley’s expected to drop the album this summer, and in the meantime you can pick up the latest issue of Cosmopolitan to read Miley’s revealing interview and check out her cover spread.
