Yesterday it was announced, to our heartbreak, that our favourite XXXO rapper M.I.A’s fourth album, Matangi, has been delayed until April.
Following her performance in Sydney’s Enmore Theatre, the controversial artist spoke to the Australian newspaper Gold Coast Bulletin about the delay of Matangi and claimed that her record label, Interscope Records, weren’t all that happy with the record she handed in.
M.I.A told the newspaper that she was heading to India to record some more tracks for the album after being told to “darken it up a bit” after her label deemed the album “too positive” as it was.
The Bad Girls rapper spoke briefly on the delay, as the album was originally due this February, stating: “I finished it and then I handed the record in, like a couple of months ago.” However, Interscope Records were left unimpressed as the rapper shared: “It’s like ‘We just built you up as the public enemy No 1 and now you’re coming out with all this positive stuff’.”
Matangi is now due on April 14th. Fingers crossed that we’ll get a single soon.
