Just today Rihanna confirmed that she has finished the recording process of her seventh studio album, celebrating it’s completion. The finalised “Unapologetic” tracklist has been released for both the standard and deluxe editions of the album.
- Fresh Off The Runway
- Pour It Up
- Loveeeeeee Song
- Right Now
- What Now
- Nobody’s Business
- Love Without Tragedy / Mother Mary
- Get It Over With
- No Love Allowed
- Lost In Paradise
15. Half of Me
16. Diamonds (Dave Aude 100 Extended)
17. Diamonds (Gregor Salto Downtempo Remix)
Judging the tracks entirely by their titles it seems we are getting a mixture of up-tempos and ballads but looks can be deceiving. However, considering that the first single to be released was the Sia-penned ballad “Diamonds” it wouldn’t be a surprise.
With Rihanna just finishing the album a matter of days ago and the music video for “Diamonds” not yet released, this era’s promotional run is awful thus far and the hype surrounding the album is lacking compared to previous albums. The fact this album may not be as successful as others is a shame as the material is shaping up to be her most stellar work yet. As well as reuniting with StarGate, Ne-Yo and David Guetta, Rihanna has been in the studio with Max Martin, Swedish House Mafia and Sia just to name a few.
Rihanna’s annual album release is predictable with this record being her seventh release in seven years. I am happy with getting new material each year from the Roc Nation belle as long as it is consistent but I feel like albums are supposed to mark definitive eras in an artist’s body of work and Rihanna’s have meshed into one within the past 2 years.
Anyway, the album’s release will be preceded by the “777” promo tour in which Rihanna will visit 7 countries in 7 days performing 7 low-key intimate gigs performing some of the new material exclusively for a limited number of fans.
“Unapologetic” is released on November 19 (UK).
