Miley Cyrus is finally ready to share the music that she’s been cooking up with a host of hip-hop producers for the past 2 years, with the first single being released on June 3.
Last night, at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards, Cyrus revealed that her first single ‘We Can’t Stop‘ will be released on iTunes in just 2 weeks time. The track is produced by Mike-WiLL Made It and Miley has described it as “the perfect hybrid” between her sound and the hip-hop producer’s sound.
There’s no word on when the song’s accompanying music video will premiere but spectators are expecting it to premiere shortly after the song release. In an interview with Billboard (below), Miley revealed that the album should be released sometime this fall but she plans on releasing a few singles before the album drops.
What do you think? Are you excited about Miley’s new music?
Last night saw the music industry celebrate another year at the Billboard Music Awards, which brought many explosive performances from Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj and many, many more!
Check out our favourite performances of the night, after the jump…
Spring Breakers star Selena Gomez delivered yet another solid performance of her first solo single ‘Come & Get It‘ last night. Her confidence is growing each time she performs the track, and last night definitely was no different as she commanded the stage with another Western-influenced sultry performance.
R&B maestro Miguel performed his Grammy Award-winning single ’Adorn‘, showcasing his powerhouse vocals in another great performance. It was a pretty standard performance for Miguel, as he’s not one to be inconsistent, but that is until he frog-leaped over the crowd and landed on a girl’s head as he attempted to jump over to the other stage. Television gold.
Chris Brown gave a poor performance of his latest single ‘Fine China‘. Despite his choreography being on top form as per usual, Brown’s vocals were very ropy throughout and after the first verse he sort of gave up and let the backing track do the work for him – allowing him to throw in an “OW!” whenever he felt like it.
Following a slightly flat performance on the American Idolfinale, Jennifer Lopez delivered the most energetic performance of the night as she danced her way through the performance of her new single ‘Live It Up‘. Accompanied by Pitbull, the 43-year-old taught her peers how to be the most talked-about person of the night despite not being nominated for any awards. Bravo, J-Lo!
Justin Bieber took to the stage to perform ‘Take You‘, the latest song to be released from his ‘Believe‘ album.
At first, I thought that Taylor Swift‘s performance was going to be a repeat of her 2012 VMAs performance and just for a different song. It kind of was the same performance, but for some reason it worked better this time around. Perhaps it is because ‘22‘ is a much better song than ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together‘ (true) and it is much less whiny (also true). Although, regardless of my personal opinions of Swift’s music, the most impressive thing about the performance was that it truly showed Taylor’s capability – and, boy, did she deliver!
Pitbull took to the stage twice last night as he also performed his own single ‘Feel This Moment‘ with the beautiful Christina Aguilera. The fun performance was simple in production but, then again, it isn’t a very serious song in the first place, is it? Christina made the performance with her diva presence taking over – and as she flaunted that new slimline figure – and a surprise appearance from A-ha frontman Morten Harket.
Will.i.Am and Justin Bieber brought the fun to Billboard with an awesome performance of their smash hit ‘#thatPOWER‘. Performing the track for the first time together, Will and Bieber gave a stellar performance with their killer choreography.
Young Money‘s finest Nicki Minaj and Lil’ Wayne brought the house down with a raunchy rendition of their latest collaboration, ‘High School‘. The performance marked the first time the duo had performed the track live together, and it took an unexpected saucy turn at the end. Fire!
Today, May 18 2013, marks the 10th anniversary of the release of Beyoncé‘s career-defining single ’Crazy In Love‘.
From the “uh-oh”‘s to the effortless booty-shaking in the video to that verse by Jay-Z, ‘Crazy In Love‘ became much more than the lead single of Beyoncé’s first solo album – it introduced “Beyoncé” to the world and remains one of the most iconic releases of her solo career.
To this day, the track has sold over 8 million copies worldwide and became the first #1 of her solo career – spending 8 consecutive weeks at the top of the US Billboard Hot 100. ’Crazy In Love‘ was chosen as the best song of the noughties by NME, and has been lauded by critics and music fans around the world since its initial release.
Stepping out from under the Destiny’s Child umbrella, the 21-year-old starlet made her mark on the industry with her sassy lover’s anthem, featuring her rumoured beau at the time, which she won 2 Grammy Awards for the following year. Skip forward 10 years and the song remains a staple piece to the 31-year-old’s performances – from her half-time show at this year’s Superbowl to her current Mrs. Carter Show World Tour, the tour dedicated to her husband.
In celebration of the timeless pop masterpiece we have chosen our favourite performances of the single, but no live outing will ever come close to the iconic music video – directed by Jake Nava.
It’s hard to believe that it has been 10 years already but as the song seems to only get better with age, I can’t wait to see what the next 10 years brings.
Kanye West has departed from ‘The Throne‘ and is readying the release of his sixth solo studio album, which is set to drop a lot sooner than most expected.
Yesterday, Kanye began his genius marketing plan of unveiling his brand new single and its accompanying video by projecting the visual across 66 buildings around the world. The new single, entitled ‘New Slaves‘, is the first to be taken from Weezy’s sixth solo album ‘Yeezus‘.
‘Yeezus‘ was made available to pre-order on Amazon earlier today, with its availability to pre-order on iTunes expected “soon”. The album will be released in the US on June 18, and most likely on June 17 in the UK.
The father-to-be is scheduled to perform ‘New Slaves‘ on tonight’s Saturday Night Live, marking the first televised performance of the track. In the meantime, check out a low-quality video of the ‘New Slaves‘ visual projected on a building in Brooklyn, New York (below).
Rumours of Mrs Carter expecting baby #2 have been swirling for the past few weeks, and according to E! Entertainment the rumours are true.
It seems that Beyoncé Knowles is expecting her second child with rapper Jay-Z, just 15 months after giving birth to the couple’s first child Blue Ivy Carter.
Bad timing for the singer as she’s just 1 month into her 6 month world tour, The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour, and has been readying her fifth studio album release. It is expected that the 31-year-old will complete the European leg of the tour, ending in 2 weeks in England, but will reschedule the US leg for next year – and will probably not release her fifth album this year.
Both Beyoncé and Jay-Z are yet to comment on the matter, but then again neither of the superstars vocally confirmed the news – the ‘Grown Woman‘ singer debuted her 5-month baby bump at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.
Oh, well! It seems we’ll be waiting another year for that new single. At least there’s a reason now, as many of the singer’s fans were angry over the fact there was no new single released since it was expected to drop over 4 months ago, on January 3.
For those – like me – who presumed Kelly Rowland‘s second single was going to be another dose of sex talk due to its risqué title ‘Dirty Laundry‘, you are majorly mistaken.
In the confessional song, co-penned and produced by The-Dream, Rowland tells of a time where she was in a toxic relationship that left her both physically and mentally abused.
Speaking of the abusive relationship, Rowland reveals she was “battered” and that her ex-lover turned her against her own family and friends – fellow Destiny’s Child band member Beyoncé included.
The dark and often poignant R&B song is brutally honest, and incredibly brave, of Kelly – and her decision to release the song as her new album’s second single is undoubtedly her most unconventional to date, as an artist anyway. The cinematic production lays the groundwork for Rowland’s lyrical confession, and the pent-up raw emotion heard in the singer’s voice is definitely not rehearsed.
Reportedly, it took Rowland 13 times to record the song and during a listening party for the single’s parent album ‘Talk A Good Game‘ the singer had to leave the room as ‘Laundry‘ played. Check it out, below:
‘Dirty Laundry‘ is available to buy on iTunes now, with Rowland’s fourth studio album ‘Talk A Good Game‘ available to pre-order ahead of its June 17 release date (UK).
Kudos to Kelly! Hopefully, this is the start of something new.
Despite her judging style being ridiculed and critiqued for months, Mariah Carey definitely used the American Idol platform to its full advantage as she said goodbye to season 12 by performing a medley of her greatest hits on the show finale.
Carey’s 5-minute medley featured portions of hits ‘My All‘, ‘Hero‘ and ‘We Belong Together‘ and ended with the first live performance of her comeback single ‘#Beautiful‘.
This performance was undoubtedly a very important factor to Carey’s comeback and it’s safe to say that the result was underwhelming. Carey used to the slot to remind viewers of her musical legacy in a messy and unmemorable “megamix” of her past hits, rather than performing her brand new single in full for the first time – which is currently climbing radio and iTunes charts.
